USER RESEARCH PROJECTS - 1996

• Frank Melchert, U. Giessen - Worked on design, construction and installation of the ion-ion collision system with John Giese, prior to his death, and Martin Stöckli. The first ion-ion experiment now in progress together with Chun-Yen Chen, GRA, and Lew Cocke.
• Eduardo Montenegro, Pontifica Universitad - Worked on ionization, electron capture and transfer ionization using the LINAC in collaboration with Lew Cocke and Pat Richard. Several publications at different stages resulted from this work.
• Reinhard Dörner and Joachim Ullrich, GSI; Horst Schmidt-Böcking, Frankfurt -- Worked on recoil-ion experiments at Macdonald Lab as well as transferring this technology to the ALS to study photoionization and Compton scattering in collaboration with Lew Cocke. Results of experiments being analyzed.
• Hiro Tawara, Nagoya - Worked on low energy ion-molecule collisions at the CRYEBIS as it relates to low temperature plasma regions in collaboration with Itzhak Ben-Itzhak. New project that will continue next year.
• Steve Lundeen and Charles Fahrenbach, Colorado State - The Colorado state group transferred its laser produced Rb Rydberg target to the KSU CRYEBIS to study electron capture by low velocity highly-charged ions in collaboration with Brett DePaola. One paper published and latest results being prepared for publication.
• Peter Kürpick and Burkhard Fricke, U. Kassel - Dr. Kürpick is working on the theory of ion-surface interactions in collaboration with Uwe Thumm. Prof. Fricke is collaborating with Uwe on the theory of ion-cluster interactions.
• Uwe Wille, Hahn-Meitner Institute, Berlin - PD Dr. Wille is working on the theory of ion-surface interactions in collaboration with Uwe Thumm.
• Jens Ducree, University of Münster - Jens and Uwe Thumm work on large computer simulations of electron capture and emission in collisions of highly charged ions with metal and insulator surfaces.
• Bogdana Bahrim and Cristian Bahrim - Dr. B. Bahrim is working on the theory of ion-surface interactions in collaboration with Uwe Thumm. Dr. C. Bahrim and Uwe are working on electron-atom scattering and photodetachment within the Dirac-R-Matrix theory.
• Yohko Awaya, Tadashi Kambara, and Yasuyuki Kanai, RIKEN - The RIKEN-KSU research agreement has been in effect for four years with collaborations between the three RIKEN scientists and Brett DePaola and Pat Richard. Work is performed at both laboratories. Several publications have resulted.
• Eugene Rudd and George Kirby, U. Nebraska - The U. of Nebraska group has moved its electron spectrometer with atomic hydrogen source to KSU to study ionization of H by high velocity, high Z bare ions in collaboration with Pat Richard. Lokesh Tribedi, RA, and Diana Ling, GRA, working on this project. First results being submitted for publication.
• Robert Moshammer, GSI - Came to KSU to help set up the Nebraska spectrometer system discussed above.
• James Feagin, Cal Fullerton - Came to KSU to work with Lew Cocke and the ALS collaborators on understanding the emission of low energy electron in ionic systems.
• K. R. Karim, Illinois State - Came to KSU to work on calculations of atomic structure and dielectronic recombination with Chander Bhalla. Several papers resulting from this work.
• Naoki Watanabe, RIKEN - Worked on ionization threshold measurements in collaboration with Lew Cocke and Scott Kravis, RA.
• Marc Pieksma, ORNL - Worked on initial set up of electron momentum spectrometer with Lew Cocke and Scott Kravis.
• S. L. Varghese, U. of South Alabama - Has been a summer user of the Macdonald Lab for the past seven years in collaboration with Lew Cocke and Pat Richard on several recoil ion and electron spectroscopy experiments.
• T.J.M. Zouros, Crete - Worked on many phases of electron spectroscopy over the last five years in collaboration with Pat Richard, and will be at KSU for most of the next two years on a sabbatical leave. He will be bringing a new spectrometer system to be set up for use on both the LINAC and CRYEBIS.
