Based on our newly developed time-dependent hyperspherical close coupling method, we calculated the photoelectron spectra of He atoms in a short XUV pulse combined with an intense infrared laser field. Calculations showed that all the four singlet 2\ell 2\ell' doubly excited states are prominently excited, analogous to photoexcitation in a static electric field. We point out that this method offers an efficient means of probing states that cannot be reached by single photoabsorption experiments alone and provides new ways of studying the structure of matter.
