"William Holton, aged 23 years, sailed from Ipswich, England, in the
ship Francis, in 1634, and became one of the original proprietors of
Hartford, Conn. In 1655 he removed to Northampton, Mass., where on May
13, 1663, he was ordained the first Deacon in the church. He represented
the town in the General Assembly in 1664, 1667, 1671, 1679, and one year
represented the neighboring town of Hadley. He died in Northampton,
August 12, 1691, aged about 80 years. The maiden name of his wife Mary
has not been found, but she died November 16, 1691."
