In his "History of Harlem: Its Origin and Early Annals", James Riker writes thus of the
'Woodhull-Tourneur marriage': "The Governor's License was obtained February 5, 1683,
and the nuptials were probably celebrated at Setauket, in the hospitable home of the Woodhulls."
Daniel Tourneur was the son of Daniel Tourneur, of Picardy, France; he was born in Holland,
but was made "a free denizen, of this place and province" (Harlem) by special letters dated
January 13, 1672."
