"Nine of the graves are marked with raised, horizontal slabs or table stones, marking the locations
of prominent settlers, including that of the Rev. John Youngs, who was the organizer of the settlement in 1640.
These vaults mark the graves of Rev. John Youngs, Col. John Youngs, Rev. William Throop, Rev. Joshua Hobart,
Mrs. Hobart, Mrs. Charity LHommedieu, Barnabas Horton, John Conkelyne and William Wells."

"Charity, b. 20 Jan 1739/40, d. 31 Jly 1785, m. 21 Dec 1756, Ezra L'Hommedieu, of Southold,
L.I., b. 30 Aug 1734, d. 28 Sep 1811, son of Benjamin and Martha (Bourn) L'Hommedieu. He was a
graduate of Yale in 1754. He was appointed by the New York Legislature as a member of the
Continental Congress on 14 Oct 1779. He and his wife were buried in the Old Burying Ground,
Southold. There was no surviving child by this marriage, but he left issue by a second marriage."
