[3384] On 2 May 1667 "Richard Smith of Smithfield Long Island sells to Richard Smith of Newtown, his rights in the house and lands that did belong to Peter Mecocke in Newtown, with the meadow in front of the lot, and the next lot which was James Smith's. 2 May 1667. Wits: John Cockern and Nathaniel Pettit."
On 20 June 1670 Richard Smith was granted a license for marriage by the Court of Assize. The wife's name was not recorded. The Smith genealogy says this appears to be a first marriage by which there were probably no children.
Richard married (2) Hannah Tooker; their first child was born 16 April 1696.
The will of Richard Smith of Smithtown is dated 23 June 1718, proved 28 March 1720. It mentions his wife Hannah; sons Richard, Nathaniel, and Ebenezer, the last under age; and daughters Sarah and Hannah. Sons Richard and Nathaniel, and friend John Davis of Easthampton were executors.

"Richard Smith (Richard), born probably in 1645, died 1720. He was granted a license
for marriage 20 Jne 1670, by the Court of Assize...The license indicates a first
marriage by which there was probably no issue. Richard Smith married (2) Hannah,
daughter of John Tooker, of Southold. Her sister, Ruth Tooker, had married Daniel
Smith (9), Richard's youngest brother. John Tooker came from England. His first wife
was Mary Johnson, and his second wife was Hannah, daughter of Barnabas Wines and
widow of John Elton, of Southold. In the will of John Tooker, of Southold, dated 24
April 1688, his wife, Hannah is mentioned and his daughter, Hannah Tooker. She and
her sister Ruth were daughters by the first marriage."

There is considerable intermarriage of Howells, Halseys, Smiths,
Woodhulls, Whites and other Long Island families. Two Edward Howell
great-granddaughters found in this work, but removed from the main
lines of descent, include Martha Howell (wife of Richard Smith) and
Phebe Howell (wife of Nathaniel Smith). Both Smith husbands were
the sons of Richard Smith and Hannah Tooker.
