The High Intensity Tunable Source (HITS).

See more photos of HITS in our Photo Gallery.

HITS, the High Intensity Tunable Source, along with PULSAR, are true state of the art ultrafast lasers. The HITS laser system provides tunable, multi-octave, broadband, waveform-sculpted pulses. HITS is mainly funded by the National Science Foundation under a Major Research Instrumentation grant. Partial support comes from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) and by the US Department of Energy (DOE). The system began operating early in 2014, and is managed by Carlos Trallero.

The specifications of HITS are as follows:

  • Repetition rate: 1 kHz
  • Wavelength: broadband light emission from 500 to 2600 nm
  • Pulse duration: 25-30 fs
  • Pulse energy: 20 mJ at 800 nm
  • CEP stability

As of 2023, HITS is being repurposed and the lab is being remodeled to accommodate a brand new laser system.
